five in-person Christmas Eve worship gatherings

Christmas Eve at Faith Church: In-person worship gatherings at 1 PM, 3 PM, 5 PM, 7 PM & 9 PM

With five Christmas Eve services to choose from, there's certain to be a time and place for you to join with Faith family and friends to celebrate the birth of Jesus.

NEW! Early service (1 PM): The first service of Christmas Eve is designed for people who would prefer a simple Christmas Eve service that observes masking and social distancing protocols, and for those who would enjoy a traditional worship service and be home before dark. All attendees at the early service will be required to wear a mask for the entire time they are in the building regardless of their vaccination status. Seating will be socially-distanced, with plenty of space around attendees. We'll sing traditional carols, hear the Christmas story in scripture and a message of hope, and conclude with candlelighting (including safer, non-flame options for younger guests).

Afternoon services (3 PM & 5 PM): The second and third Christmas Eve worship gatherings are intentionally designed to engage kids of all ages while sharing the Christmas story and singing familiar carols. The children's choir will sing at one of these two interactive services (to be determined). We'll have candlelighting with non-flame options for the kids, and a few surprises along the way, too!

Evening service (7 PM): The fourth service of Christmas Eve offers a traditional worship opportunity with favorite carols played on the sanctuary organ. We'll read the Christmas story from the Bible and finish with "Silent Night" and candlelighting.

Late service (9 PM): The last Christmas Eve service will be the simplest, offering a reflective and quiet atmosphere for contemplating the Christmas story. We'll sing traditional carols, hear the Chancel Choir, enjoy candlelighting, and celebrate Holy Communion together (all attendees are welcome to receive communion at Faith; click here to learn more).

three online Christmas Eve worship gatherings

For those who are not comfortable coming to in-person worship, or who are traveling, or who don't live in the Bellefonte area, we'll have three opportunities to worship online Christmas Eve. All three will be streamed live.

For families with younger children, you might enjoy watching the 3 PM worship live stream together as a family. There will be special elements of the service that will engage kids of all ages.

For folks who enjoy a traditional service, you may enjoy watching the 7 PM live stream. This worship gathering will feature familiar carols with the words on the screen for you to sing along with.

For people who want to receive communion on Christmas Eve, you might enjoy worshiping online at 9 PM. All those who are joining online are welcome to receive communion as part of this service, which will include the chancel choir.

Christmas Eve FAQs

I want to invite someone to worship with me (online or in person). How do I do that?

Starting on November 28, we'll have custom Faith Church Christmas Eve postcard invitations available at our office and at the Connection Table before and after worship gatherings. Take one (or three!), circle the service you plan to attend and write a short note inviting a neighbor, friend or coworker to join you at that worship gathering. We'll also have shareable social media posts you can use to invite friends to worship with you online.

Will masks be required on Christmas Eve?

At the 1 PM service, masks will be required for all attendees regardless of vaccination status for the entire time they are in the builing. At the other four services, masks will not be required but strongly encouraged for anyone not fully vaccinated. Masks will be provided at the entry for anyone who needs one.

Will you be social distancing or following other COVID-19 precautions?

At the 1 PM service, only every other pew will be used for seating, and we will seat attendees in the middle or on the ends of the pews. At the other four services, we will do our best to offer socially-distanced seating, but it is not guaranteed. The sanctuary and visiting spaces (lobby, bathrooms, etc.) will be cleaned and sanitized between each service.

Can I worship online with Faith on Christmas Eve?

Yes! We will live stream our 3 PM, 7 PM and 9 PM worship gatherings on our Facebook page, YouTube channel and on our website. Links to those services will be shared during December here, on our social media channels (Facebook, YouTube and Instagram) and in our promotional materials.

Do I need a ticket or reservation to attend in-person?

Will you have childcare available?

Our 3 PM and 5 PM worship gatherings are designed to be actively engaging for kids of all ages. At certain services, a supervised nursery may be available (to be determined). At all services, a quiet nursery for infants and very young children (including a crib, changing table, and a TV streaming the worship service) will be available but not staffed (an adult must accompany children).

What about candlelighting?

All five Christmas Eve worship gatherings will include candlelighting. Safer, flame-free options will be provided for young children to participate.

Will you celebrate Holy Communion?

We'll share communion at the 9 PM Christmas Eve service. We provide gluten-free, sealed elements (grape juice and bread) at the in-person service. Online participants are encouraged to gather juice or wine and bread or crackers for everyone who will be worshiping with you. All who desire to celebrate this holy meal are welcome to participate.
